What to know before getting started

Not sure where to begin? Whether you are exploring options or ready to dive right in, we’re here to help—reach out to ask questions or schedule a consultation.

  • Many families start working with us in junior year, when college selection and application planning begin to take on a clearer shape. For students with ambitious goals, starting earlier (even as early as middle school) allows time to explore interests, plan coursework thoughtfully, and approach the admissions process with clarity rather than urgency. That being said, we meet families where they are and are glad to begin whenever the timing feels right.

  • School counselors play an important role in supporting students, but they often work with large caseloads and limited time for individualized guidance. Our advising is designed to complement that support by offering more personalized and strategic attention. We work closely with students and families to develop a thoughtful admissions plan, provide detailed feedback on applications and essays, and help students approach the process with excitement and confidence.

  • Our approach integrates academic preparation, extracurricular and profile development, and strategic admissions guidance into one cohesive process. Rather than focusing only on test scores or application deadlines, we work closely with students to develop a thoughtful academic and personal trajectory over time. This allows students to build not only strong credentials, but also a clear and authentic narrative that resonates in highly selective admissions environments.

  • Not necessarily. Many students who aspire to highly selective universities are strong academically but may not yet have a clear strategy for positioning themselves in the admissions process. Our role is to help students clarify their interests, strengthen their academic and extracurricular profile, and approach the application process with intention and direction.

  • Our advising is highly individualized. We work with a limited number of students so that we can provide thoughtful mentorship and sustained guidance throughout the process. Each student’s academic interests, extracurricular activities, and long-term goals are different, and our advising reflects that. Our goal is to help every student develop a path that is both ambitious and authentic.

  • We approach college list development as a thoughtful balance of academic fit, personal interests, and admissions strategy. By considering a student’s academic profile, goals, extracurricular involvement, and preferences for campus environment, we help build a balanced list that includes reach, target, and likely schools. Our goal is to ensure that every student applies to institutions where they can thrive both academically and personally.

  • We offer both hourly advising and structured packages, depending on a family’s needs and the level of support they are seeking. Some families prefer focused guidance on specific parts of the process, while others benefit from more comprehensive advising over a longer period of time. During an initial consultation, we discuss each student’s goals and timeline and recommend an approach that best fits their situation.

  • Financial considerations are an important part of the college planning process. When relevant, we help families understand how financial aid policies and merit scholarship opportunities may influence college selection and application strategy. While admissions and financial aid decisions are ultimately made by each institution, we aim to help families approach these conversations with greater knowledge and awareness.
